The Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R is one of the finest creations from the carmaker and in V Spec II guise, is a true JDM icon. Throttle House recently had the opportunity to test one finished in Bayside Blue and pitted it against the new Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary model, also painted in the same hue.

Nissan introduced the fifth-generation Skyline in January 1999 and kept it in production until August 2002. It is powered by a 2.6-liter twin-turbocharged RB26DETT inline-six engine that is adored by both owners and tuners alike. The reviewers note that while this engine is old, it has been so well-built and tuned that the car experiences very little turbo lag.

The V Spec II features a handful of upgrades over the first-iteration V Spec, including stiffer suspension, larger rear brake rotors, a carbon fiber hood, aluminum pedals, and some other adjustments. It also happens to look fantastic and is hard not to fall head over heels for.

As for the latest GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition, it features a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine that’s good for 562 HP and 466 lb-ft (632 Nm) of torque. It is an absolute animal in a straight line and leaves the R34-gen for dead around corners. Some special touches including the white exterior accents and ‘50th Anniversary’ badges remind you that this is a special edition.
